Today, Dan and I went to the farmers market in Barrington. I love going to this market. For the most part, the produce is local. I find the produce I want to incorporate in my new diet and lifestyle. I found the ingredients that I needed to make the soups and dishes that I can have next week during the puree stage of my diet.
The next stop was Whole Foods, where we were able to get the lentils and some other grains in bulk. I did find the quinoa, Bulgar wheat and brown rice in bulk which is great since we have a hard time finding this stuff in the local Jewel Osco. While I was there I had to grab a snack and found a delicious yogurt called Siggi. It does not use any sugar or artificial sweeteners. It uses a sweetener called blue agave nectar. It does not cause me to be sick. I do like plain yogurt, but I do like some flavor and today I enjoyed an orange and ginger yogurt which was wonderful.
The last stop was the Spice House to pick up the four spices I forgot last week. After getting home, I started to roast the veggies we had bought. I roasted carrots and onions for a carrot curry soup. I am roasting squash, sweet potatoes, beets and small fingerling potatoes which will be used in dishes later this week. I also will use the mangoes for a mango drink that uses yogurt that is really good to drink. Dan tried some really good Jamaica Jerk Chicken and pick up some good recipes.
Tonight for supper, I made a carrot curry soup. I took the roasted carrots and onion that I seasoned with curry, paprika and nutmeg during roasting. Once they were done, I put them in a blender and added garlic, plain yogurt and 1 can of chicken stock. Then the soup is blended. You can have it as chunky as you like it, but I do still need it a little smooth until later on. It was quite good and hit the spot tonight. It was certainly a change from protein drinks and plain yogurt
